In the ever-evolving tapestry of music, Clara Pople emerges as a visionary force, seamlessly weaving influences from the bygone era of early trip-hop to the timeless echoes of folk. With her latest EP, ‘It’s The Girl,’ Clara not only solidifies her standing as an avant-pop artist but shatters the constraints of genre, creating a sonic landscape that is uniquely hers.

At the heart of Clara’s musical prowess lies a remarkable ability to transform her voice into an instrument of boundless potential. ‘It’s The Girl’ showcases her talent in orchestrating a diverse range of elements—from a haunting choir to the pulsating depths of dark bass lines. Clara’s syncopated beatboxing rhythms and intricate 6-part harmonies, all crafted from her own vocal cords, add layers of complexity to her avant-pop tapestry.

Clara fearlessly ventures into uncharted territory, manipulating classical technique, infusing gospel vibes, and drawing inspiration from Bristol’s trip-hop scene. The result is a darkly poetic, uniquely original sound that captivates listeners with its emotive soundscapes. Each track delicately layers sombre messaging against moments of melodic interludes, providing a dynamic journey through the complexities of emotion.

In Clara’s own words, the EP is a “musical concoction of emotions harboured over the years.” The overarching theme revolves around a female protagonist, a reflection of Clara herself. Her music delves into the feelings of loss and the relentless pursuit that characterises the tumultuous phase of early adulthood. Yet, amidst the shadows, there’s a persistent sense of empowerment that permeates through her compositions, offering solace to both the artist and the audience.

Accompanying the single is a visual masterpiece crafted in collaboration with students at Screenology Film School in Bristol. The film pays homage to the multifaceted power of feminine strength, portraying empowered women navigating the storms of life. Meriwether Lewis aptly describes it as an ode to the myriad personas women embody, a testament to the resilience found in the eye of life’s storms.

The lead single, ‘Balance,’ occupies a special place in Clara’s heart. Penned in response to the overwhelming experiences of 2022, the song encapsulates the dual nature of existence. Clara masterfully translates the weight of grief and the chaos of life into a melody that, paradoxically, becomes a source of empowerment. It’s a musical tightrope walk on the edge of a mental breakdown, where vulnerability meets resilience.

A graduate of the prestigious British and Irish Modern Music Institute in Manchester (BIMM), Clara’s momentum in the music industry shows no signs of slowing down. With just three singles, she’s garnered attention on BBC Radio 1, secured support from Sofar Sounds, and earned recognition at Kendal Calling’s ‘Artist Pick.’ Notably, winning DHL’s Fast Track competition paved the way for a recording session at the iconic Abbey Road Studios.

In 2023, Clara wowed audiences with a 20-night residency at Edinburgh Free Fringe venue The Little White Pig. Her captivating performances continued in packed venues across London, including The Waiting Room, The Finsbury, and Matchstick Piehouse. Additionally, Clara hosts enchanting, fairy-lit houseboat gigs monthly, treating a select few in South East London to an intimate musical experience.

As ‘It’s The Girl’ resonates with audiences, Clara Pople emerges as a formidable presence in the music industry. The EP serves as a launch pad, propelling her into the spotlight and setting the stage for a promising journey into 2024 and beyond. With a blend of musical ingenuity, heartfelt storytelling, and an unwavering sense of empowerment, Clara Pople stands poised to leave an indelible mark on the world of avant-pop.
