Pretty: The Toronto Band Blending DIY Punk and Psychedelic Sound into a Dark and Frenzied Sonic Landscape
Pretty is a band that knows how to make an entrance, leaving their mark with a bang and a whole lot of noise. Their unique blend of punk rock and psychedelic sound is a testament to their DIY roots, inspired by the vibrant scene of Toronto in the 2010s. With their latest offerings, the band takes their signature sound to a whole new level, crafting a dark and furious sonic landscape that is both captivating and mesmerizing.
Torin: “Wait for the Sun was written sometime in the winter of 2021 and started out as an experiment to see if I could still write something pop-ish. It was winter during a lockdown, and I was living in a pretty bleak apartment, quite literally waiting for the sun to come back in the spring. The obvious COVID-19 pandemic context aside, the song is about yearning for the end of depression and despair, and trying to hold the memories of better feelings to remind yourself that no matter how bad something is, it will end, or at least change.”
In 2022, the band was busy working on their highly anticipated second EP, following the success of their debut album Sertraline Dream (2020). Alongside their studio work, Pretty also took the stage for some headline shows, bringing their music to more extensive and more enthusiastic crowds than ever before. The band was also featured in prestigious events such as Exclaim! Magazine’s Class of 2022, Canadian Music Week, and Sarnia’s Empty Fest showcased their talent and earned them a loyal fan base.
For those who love to get lost in the music and discover new sides of themselves, Pretty is a must-see. Their music is a journey that takes you to another dimension, where you can lose yourself in the hypnotic beats and the raw energy of their live shows. Don’t miss out on the chance to experience the magic of Pretty – they are a band that you won’t forget anytime soon.
