Making a return to their old label Xtra Mile after almost ten years, the confirmation of the new deal arrives with the promise that a new Jim Lockey & The Solemn Sun album is due later this year.

Expressing his excitement to return to Xtra Mile, frontman Jim Lockey says:

“We are proud to return to the XMR family to release our new album. After a decade away exploring different projects we’re back doing what we love — making honest records and creating the best live show we can offer. The new album is the perfect example of this; an all-out live show crammed into an album. It’s been a hugely cathartic process for me personally and I feel it represents our band perfectly. We can’t wait for people to hear what we’ve been working on.”

The announcement also comes as the band’s 2012 breakthrough album ‘Death’ is honoured as Xtra Mile’s ‘Album of the Month’ for March. Jim adds:

“We also get to kick off our return by revisiting the album that started it all. ‘Death’ opened so many doors, took us part-way round the world and introduced us to incredible artists and fans. We owe so much to that record and to the XMR team for taking the album from a few assembled songs to chart positions, Radio 1 and SXSW. We’ve loved the opportunity to remember this album and to mark the occasion with fresh artwork.”

Director at Xtra Mile, Charlie Caplowe says:

“All of us at XM are absolutely delighted to be working with the incredible Jim Lockey & The Solemn Sun again. We thought their debut album ‘Death’ couldn’t be bettered, and they have undoubtedly proven us all wrong with their new album coming out on XMR later in the year!”

After forming as a folk-punk band in 2009, Jim Lockey & The Solemn Sun originally signed to Xtra Mile Recordings in 2011, before releasing ‘Death’ a year later. Completing two UK headline tours, playing sets at festivals around the world including SXSW and supporting the likes of Mumford & Sons, Johnny Flynn and Peter Doherty, the band rounded out that whirlwind year with an unforgettable set opening for friend and fan Frank Turner. Gaining widespread acclaim from the likes of Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Kerrang and more, the band also gained a ‘Next Hype’ accolade from Zane Lowe and played a live session at Maida Vale.

After an extensive hiatus, Jim Lockey & The Solemn Sun will return to Xtra Mile in 2023 with new music coming very soon…
