The Danish-Irish talent shines bright on her first new single of 2023 as Selma Higgins welcomes Spring with the irresistible feel of ‘Sunlight’.

Selma Higgins debuted in 2020 with an authentic folk-inspired EP release rooted in her Nordic and Irish upbringing. The organic feel is ever present in her music and even though she has moved on to a new more soulful and funky sound, the authenticity still embraces the dusty groove of her new single, ‘Sunlight’.

“I’m an energetic and versatile singer and as a songwriter, I never limit myself or the people around me in the studio to follow a specific sound or style. I wanna experiment and challenge myself – and whether the result is going to be smooth or rough around the edges, I want it to be real, warm and me,” Selma Higgins says.

On her first new release in almost three years, Selma returns with a ballad full of 70’s glamour and funky pop textures while she sings of being trapped by addiction in a souring relationship. Selma tells:

“’Sunlight’ comes from a personal experience where I found myself desperately searching for hope in hopeless love. Ironically, the vibe of the song is quite uplifting. I guess it’s because, writing it, I realized I could only win this battle within my head with a bit of self-knowledge and a hell lot of the impenetrable power of self-irony.”

With the release of her debut, ‘To the Sincerest from Selma Higgins’, she has already proved to be an honest artist. And even though Selma Higgins is only 26 years old, ‘Sunlight’ is definitely the sound of a more mature and experienced young woman.
