‘Summer Drug’ is the latest, addictive indie-pop single from Atlanta-based singer, songwriter and producer Ci Majr. Written in March of 2020, ‘Summer Drug’ is a candid and introspective single about being emotionally unavailable after a break-up yet still wanting the physical intimacy and closeness of another. Dressed in shimmering pop beats and an up-tempo, dance chorus, ‘Summer Drug’ sees Ci Majr disguise blunt, biting lyrics in playful and euphoric production, resulting in the ultimate metaphor for the thrilling highs and bitter lows of a post-breakup, summertime fling.
“Lyrically the inspiration was being in a place where you basically refuse to make yourself romantically vulnerable even though you’ve met a person who has boyfriend/girlfriend potential. I think a lot of us have been in a place where we’ve been hurt from a relationship and have a hard time opening up again, so even when a good thing comes around you keep them at an arm’s length to keep yourself from getting hurt. So this song is saying ‘yes, you can absolutely satisfy my physical needs but we’re not taking it further than that’; likening ‘using’ someone for their body just like you’d use a drug of some sort.”

Born in Chicago, Ci Majr (Ciara Adkins) first made her break in music back in 2016 following the unexpected global success of her debut single #CuffinSZN (demo). The track gained significant momentum and featured on Spotify’s coveted ‘Fresh Finds’ playlist, soon catching the eyes and ears of David Esquivel of Pop On & On who, together with Swedish producer Anders Oloffson, teamed up to create the full radio version of the hit single, ‘Cuffin SZN’.
Learning first hand the power of collaborative working, Ci Majr has since been consistently writing, recording and producing music, often working together with other upcoming musicians and producers. Her most notable collaboration to date being with Atlanta-based DJ and producer Benji Reyes who featured on the rhythmic, electro-pop tune ‘Wiggle Room’ which has since amassed well over 400,000 streams on Spotify alone.
Enlisting the help of another fellow producer and friend for ‘Summer Drug’, Ci Majr tapped UK multi-instrumentalist and producer Féz for the finishing touches of her anthemic new single. Overcome by a sudden rush of creativity during the first, global lock-downs early last year, Ci Majr put pen to paper, starting with a simple bassline, then an instrumental demo followed by the piano and then the lyrics.
