Deep in the Garden
King Jane was founded when Michael Sanders and Kenny Florence met while pursuing masters degrees of (classical) music composition at The New School in New York. Florence, formerly of the bands’ Annuals and Sunfold, had experience travelling the world and splitting tours with bands like The Flaming Lips, Minus the Bear, and Manchester Orchestra. Sean Atkinson and drummer Lex Nordlinger joined shortly thereafter.
Most of the EP’s music was tracked at the world-famous Power Station Recording studio, engineered by Neal Shaw. The majority of the drum set used on the EP was the same one played by Omar Hakim when he recorded David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance.” The last bit of tracking and all the mixing was done at the apartments of Shaw and Florence.
