“The narrative structure of this track was inspired by the famous children’s’ story ‘Where the Wild Things are,’ by Maurice Sendak,” Ultra_eko says. “It is currently a favourite of my three-year-old at bedtime. Despite its apparent simplicity, it is a fascinating book which examines how children confront their fears and demons, the anger and emotions that perhaps they do not yet understand, through the power of imagination. How they creative fantastical narratives to confront and process their emotions, and thus achieve catharsis through them.”

“My track “King of the Wild Things” is very much an adult retelling of that story. Perhaps the main difference is that in the children’s version, the main character, Max, returns home to the safety of his parents. In my version, the main character is an adult, there is no one to return to, and thus he is left alone with these monsters.

The monsters are his own personal demons, in which he lives within some kind of symbiosis. These fears and demons rely on him to breathe life into them, and he is also a hostage to them.”
