Reclaim; Set Fire by Verity White
Only two years working as a full-time musician, rock artist Verity White from Cheltenham in the UK just put out her 10th release and 2nd studio album Reclaim; Set Fire, to be released on the 8th of March. Verity showcases a unique and emotional twist on a female fronted rock. She takes influences from the 90s scene, mashing it up with synths, strings and intricate vocal lines to create a brutal yet beautiful alternative, rock music. She writes the music together with her husband Alex White and is supported by drummer Alex McIntosh en bass player Joe Kelly when she performs live. Besides working hard on her music, Verity has a great social media presence where she daily tells her story with vlogs, funny posts, supporting other artists and interacts with her fans.
Compared to her first album Breaking Out, this new album ‘Reclaim; Set Fire’ is a huge step forward. It’s a cohesive guitar-driven record, on which you clearly can hear that Verity found her own sound. In all the ten songs Verity sounds very confident and her voice is full of energy and the production by Alex is excellent. The opening track ‘Come And Get It’ introduces you to this new sound. A real rock song with a great drive and vibe, which leaves you wanting more.
The album continues with ‘Hearstorm’ starting with a delicate guitar riff into a very strong chorus. Halfway through the album, Verity slows down with the very beautiful and emotional song ‘Wild’, just accompanied by an acoustic guitar and her great backing vocals. In ‘Listen Up!’ you can hear the improvement of the band with tight guitars and steady drums, although still being a dynamic song where Verity shows the power and flexibility of her voice. The closing song ‘Feel This’ is a surprise with introducing an acoustic piano. It’s a very personal song which also shows Verity’s creativity in writing wonderful lyrics. Although it’s not a rock song, this could be the single of the album.
The only thing that is missed on this great album are the catchy synth lines they used on Breaking Out. Maybe they will bring it back on future releases. But, with ‘Reclaim; Set Fire’, Verity White definitely establish her name in the Indie scene and beyond and promises a lot for the future. By the way, it’s really recommended to see Verity White live on stage. That’s the place where you will experience Verity White as a true artist.
‘Reclaim; Set Fire’ will be released on the 8th of March, but you can already download it on her Bandcamp page.
